Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange
Interdisciplinary collaboration can strengthen research by bringing together different forms of knowledge, expertise and experience. DDI welcomes collaboration with researchers, educational institutions, practitioners and organisations where this can contribute to rigorous research, education and public understanding.
Collaborative activities may include joint research, seminars and workshops, knowledge exchange, educational initiatives and the dissemination of research findings. Partnerships are developed where they support DDI’s research and educational purposes, preserve intellectual independence and contribute to public benefit.

Research and knowledge-exchange collaborations examining the development, use and governance of digital technologies in public-sector contexts, including opportunities to contribute evidence and independent analysis to public understanding and policy discussions.
Industry & Technology
Research collaborations examining the development, deployment and implications of digital and emerging technologies, including opportunities for knowledge exchange, empirical research and independent analysis.
Universities & Research
Collaborative and interdisciplinary research with universities, research institutes and individual researchers across digital society, AI ethics, digital governance, algorithmic systems and related fields of inquiry.
International & Civil Society
Research, education and knowledge-exchange collaborations with international organisations and civil-society bodies examining the societal implications of digital and emerging technologies across different communities and contexts.
Our Partnership Principles
Six principles guide how DDI approaches research and educational collaborations and help protect the quality, independence and public benefit of our work.
- Research Integrity
Collaborative research is undertaken using appropriate methods and standards of rigour, transparency and research integrity. Findings are determined by the evidence and analysis rather than predetermined organisational or partner positions.
- Public Benefit
Collaborations should contribute to DDI’s research or educational purposes and produce identifiable public benefit through knowledge, learning, useful research findings or accessible educational resources.
- Intellectual Independence
DDI retains appropriate independence over research questions, methods, analysis and conclusions. Funding or collaboration does not entitle a partner to determine research findings.
- Openness & Dissemination
Useful research findings are intended to be made publicly accessible wherever reasonably possible, subject to legitimate requirements concerning confidentiality, data protection, research ethics and intellectual property.
- Diverse Perspectives
We value collaboration that brings together relevant disciplines, experiences and perspectives, helping research questions to be examined from different viewpoints and contexts.
- Evidence & Method
Collaborative research is grounded in appropriate evidence and methods, which may include empirical data, literature, case studies, comparative analysis and other relevant forms of inquiry.

Research Study Groups
DDI is developing interdisciplinary research study groups that bring together researchers and practitioners to examine emerging questions concerning artificial intelligence, digital technologies and society from different disciplinary perspectives.
