Our Mission

The Digital Dignity Alliance is an independent educational and research organisation established to advance education for the public benefit in digital ethics, artificial intelligence, algorithmic decision-making, and the social, economic and ethical implications of digital and emerging technologies.

We undertake rigorous and independent research that advances knowledge and understanding in these fields. We make the useful results of our research publicly accessible through publications, educational resources, learning activities and public engagement.

Our work examines how digital technologies affect individuals, organisations and communities. This includes research and education concerning dignity, privacy, fairness, transparency, accountability, inclusion and other ethical and societal questions arising from the development and use of digital technologies.

We are committed to evidence-based inquiry, intellectual independence and the consideration of different perspectives. Our purpose is to increase knowledge and public understanding and to enable people to engage with these complex issues on an informed basis.

Thesis

Our Founding Thesis

Digital technologies increasingly influence how people communicate, work, learn, access services and participate in society. Artificial intelligence and algorithmic systems consequently raise significant ethical, social and economic questions that warrant rigorous research, critical examination and wider public understanding.

The Digital Dignity Alliance was founded on the principle that these questions should be examined through independent research, open intellectual inquiry and accessible education.

Human dignity provides an important field of inquiry within our work. We study how different approaches to the design, development and use of digital technologies may affect individuals and communities, alongside related questions concerning privacy, fairness, transparency, accountability and inclusion.

Our research is evidence-based and open to different perspectives and conclusions. Through the publication and dissemination of useful research and educational resources, we seek to advance knowledge and enable researchers, practitioners, communities and the wider public to develop their understanding of digital and emerging technologies.

Formation

Alliance Formation Statement

The Digital Dignity Alliance was established in 2026 as an independent educational and research organisation focused on digital ethics, artificial intelligence, algorithmic systems and the societal implications of digital and emerging technologies.

The Alliance was established to advance education and knowledge for the public benefit through rigorous research, the dissemination of useful research findings and accessible educational activities.

DDA maintains intellectual independence from governmental, commercial and political interests. Research questions, methods, analysis and conclusions are guided by principles of academic integrity, methodological rigour and evidence rather than predetermined political, commercial or institutional positions.

The Alliance is developing its research network, educational resources and programme of research. We are also establishing relationships with researchers, educational institutions, practitioners and other organisations that can strengthen our capacity to undertake research and disseminate knowledge for the public benefit.

We welcome engagement from those interested in contributing to rigorous research, education and public understanding within our fields of study.
